Contemporary photography at Roberto Alban Art Gallery
The goal is giving visibility to Salvador’s photographers who work with new and different perspectives on interpreting reality.
There’s a growth and strengthening in Salvador of the contemporary trend of the photographic creation, which flirts with experimentation and seeks new and different visions of reality. With that in mind, Roberto Alban Art Gallery promotes the exhibition Olhares Transversos: fotografia e fotógrafos. The idea is to give space and visibility to local photographers that develop, with their works, different techniques, media and processes. The exhibition is open to the public between March 21st and April 22nd.
As curator of the exhibition, the photographer and Photography professor of the Fine Arts School Edgard Oliva reunited new artists and others that are already known to the public, who personified with their works an artistic restlessness proposal. Ten were chosen: Adelmo Santos, Eriel Araújo, Gil Maciel, Karla Brunet, Patrícia Martins, Péricles Mendes, Renata Voss, Rosa Bunchaft, Rodrigo Wanderley and Tom Correia. Besides them, Edgard Oliva exhibits some of his works, creating a bridge between the curator’s role and his artist/photographer side, presenting images produced with the full moon as the only source of light.
"The photographers/artists of this exhibition are creators of images focused on the present and the emergence of facts, on time that provides transversality, doings and aesthetic modalities with questions that emerge from the thinking body", summarizes Oliva in the exhibition’s presentation text. In other words, the curator wanted to share with the public what he considered, in his contacts and researches, a differential of quality and artistic vigor.
This way, there are images extracted from a camera made of cardboard, others from expired films, some others created from photogram made in laboratories, others transferred to cement plates, others produced in a "mix" between image and the graphic representation of sound. The result of these experimentations flirts with the concept of extreme creativity, as Edgard Oliva points out, noting that "the perspectives are multiple, and not repeated, hence the wealth of the group we gathered".
According to the curator, the exhibition will give the public a glance of "a photographic trend existent in Bahia; which is growing and has its strength in the differentiated vision of singular artists, who test new media, experiment new ideas and seek to dialogue with the contemporary".
