Thalita Hamaoui – Baile
Solo Show | October 27 th to November 28 th - 2022
Landscapes are part of humankind's imaginary. But they can go beyond the collectively accepted shapes when reflecting private feelings, emotions and meanings rooted in a life trajectory. It is as such that the work of the São Paulo- born artist Thalita Hamaoui has been standing out in the national scene and abroad. A production that Alban Gallery has the pleasure to present to Bahia's public from October 28 th to November 28 th , with the show Baile.
The title of the show faithfully reflects Thalita Hamoui's creative proposition, who promotes a real "ball" of colors with her exuberant paintings. There are 15 canvases of high visual impact – one of them with 5m in length x 2m in height – in which the reds, yellows and greens vibrate amid the gentleness of the multiple variations of white, black and grey. Together, the colors flow through the artist's imaginary, who claims to be decidedly committed to the unexpected and the possibilities of fate and intuition.
I see my painting as a mirage, a glimpse, something outlined as my creation is expressed without obeying to a previous thought about the result. Everything happens because of the power of movement itself. That's why I associate my artistic making to the notion of impermanence; everything changes, nothing is static or fixed. My work follows nature's power", analyses Hamaoui.
According to her, landscapes have always been part of her life. The landscapes she saw as a child when leaving the city of São Paulo for the beaches of the North shore. The landscapes she experienced in trips around different places.
Landscapes imprisoned in memories and that, at production's time, show their emotional power as the artist's basis for her creative process.
As it is recognized by Victor Gorgulho, curator of the show, Thalita Hamaoui's work is translated by "a singular approach to the landscape theme, attributing an expressive contemporaneity to a universe largely worked and discussed throughout the centuries". To the curator, by working simultaneously in different canvases, the artist "sets a work flow, at the same time organic and intuitive" that ends up giving origin to an "involuntary choreography", allowing "the memory of nature, of the natural spaces experienced and sentimentally kept to be transported to the pictorial plane".
Thalita Hamaoui was born in São Paulo in 1981. She graduated from the Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) in 2006. Her first solo show took place at Centro Cultural São Paulo in 2017. Other solo shows were held in São Paulo, Curitiba and Lisbon. Among the group exhibitions the highlights are Possession (Folley Gallery, New York| 2016); Coexistência (NowHere, Lisbon| 2021) and Mothering (Kupfer, London|2022).
