Tiago Sant’Ana is a visual artist, curator, and doctor in Culture and Society from the Federal University of Bahia. His works deal with processes of fabulation and production of history and memory, especially those linked to narratives around Afro-diasporic identities. Sant’Ana combines an appreciation for refined aesthetic investigation in different artistic languages – such as photography, video, and painting – with a more conceptual, speculative, and political exercise. He was awarded the ZUM photography scholarship from Instituto Moreira Salles (2021), laureate of the Soros Arts Fellowship (2020), winner of the Foco ArtRio Prize (2019), and one of the nominees for the Pipa Prize (2018, 2023). He participated in national and international exhibitions such as “Brazilian Stories” (2022) and “Afro-Atlântica Stories” (2018), at MASP, “Enciclopédia Negra” (2021), at Pinacoteca de São Paulo, “Um defeito de cor” (2022 ) and “O Rio dos Navegantes” (2019), at the Rio Art Museum, “Axé Bahia: The power of art in an Afro-Brazilian metropolis” (2017), at The Fowler Museum and “Reply All” (2016), at Grosvenor Gallery UK. His works are part of collections such as those of MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Denver Art Museum, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Museu de Arte do Rio, Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia and Instituto Moreira Salles.
As curator, in 2023 deputy of the next edition of the Mercosul Biennial, between 2019 and 2022 he organized the exhibition program at the Goethe-Institut Salvador, he was assistant curator of the 3rd. Bienal da Bahia (2014), in addition to having curated other exhibitions such as “Zonas limitrofes” (2020), “O Espaço Divided” (2019), “Kaurís” (2019), “Concerto para Aves” (2019), “ Vamos de hand in hand” (2018), “Campo de Batalha” (2017) and “Future Afro Brazil Visions in Time” (2017). He served as guest curator at Pivô Pesquisa (2022). He was a substitute professor for the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts at the Federal University of Bahia between 2016 and 2017.
