Guilherme Dable, holds a Ph.D. in Visual Poetics from IA/UFRGS, the institution where he also completed his undergraduate and master's degrees in Visual Arts. He was one of the founders and co-managers of Atelier Subterrânea, an independent space based in Porto Alegre that was active from 2006 to 2015, featuring a robust program of exhibitions and events. He lives and works in Porto Alegre.
His research primarily encompasses the languages of drawing and painting, expanding into investigations that flirt with space occupation, not confining itself solely to traditional language supports. His work explores the relationships between architecture, memory, landscape, and the diagrammatic characteristics of drawing language, occasionally using unconventional methods to produce drawings, such as prepared instruments or shoe moisture.
Among his notable solo exhibitions are "non um tempo, mas um lugar" (2022) at the Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre; "Fiz ele soletrar seu nome" (2017) at Galeria Anita Schwartz, Rio de Janeiro; "The radio was always on in the kitchen" (2016) at Belmacz, London; "Um desenho enorme" (2015) at Espaço de Artes da UFCSPA, Porto Alegre; "Deste lugar entre meio-dia e duas horas da tarde" at Roberto Alban Galeria, Salvador; "Latentes" (2013) at Sala Recife, Recife; "Álibis, desvios e atos falhos" at Galeria Eduardo Fernandes, São Paulo.
Among his recent group exhibitions are "Acervo em Movimento: aquisições 2019-2022" (2022-2023) at MARGS; "Experimento Subterrânea" (2019) at MACRS, Porto Alegre; "B" at Belmacz; "A Condição Básica" at Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos, Viamão; "Apologue" at Un-Spaced, Paris; "Lento Crepúsculo" at Pinacoteca Rubem Berta, Porto Alegre; "Alucinações à beira-mar" (2017) at MAM-Rio, Rio de Janeiro; "Aã" at FVCB; "Em Polvorosa" (2016) at MAM-Rio.
He has been an artist in residence at the Torus Institute, Garibaldi, Brazil, and the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, United States.
