A work by Ricardo Homem is always a construction. Since the onset of his career, in the 1980s, his drawings, paintings and reliefs have emerged through the assembly of structures, through the articulation of two or more elements. In the making of his earliest works, for instance, Homen frequently built up successive layers of paper and pigment, using collage-based procedures to lend physical density to the support and to achieve richly textured painterly surfaces through the accumulation of material.

It is a notorious fact that one cannot talk about colors, if not in form of taxonomy or by language figures. The only way to describe a color is by indicating an object that represents it – or, even better, establishes its position among other similar colors: a greenish yellow, an orange red
